Abruzzo Wine

Abruzzo sits on Italy's Adriatic coast, roughly level with Rome but on the opposite side of the peninsula, nicknamed the greenest region in Europe thanks to its national parks and the Gran Sasso massif rising sharply inland from the coast. Montepulciano is by far the region's most important grape, though local producers also grow Trebbiano d'Abruzzo for whites and the increasingly fashionable Pecorino, a distinct grape unrelated to the cheese of the same name. Winemaking here tends to prioritise value and drinkability over prestige, which has made the region a reliable source of everyday wine.
