Chateau Marsyas Satyr Red takes its name from the ancient Greek name for the Bekaa Valley itself - the Marsyas Valley - which tells you something about how long people have been making wine on this land. The estate was set up by Lebanon's Saade family with Bordeaux consultant Stephane Derenoncourt advising, and Satyr is their most easygoing red: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from younger vines, made with no oak at all so the fruit stays front and centre. Expect a medium-bodied wine with black currant, plum, mint and a touch of pencil shavings, held together by fine, approachable tannins. It's Cabernet with nothing hiding behind the barrel.

What the winery says:

Satyr Red is produced from younger-vine Cabernet Sauvignon in the Bekaa Valley and made with the complete absence of oak barrel ageing, keeping the style approachable and fruit-forward. The estate isn't certified organic but follows organic principles: no pesticides or weed-killers, with cereal crops planted between the rows to improve soil aeration and add organic matter. Expect a medium ruby-red wine with youthful aromas of black currant, plum, anise, mint and pencil shavings, medium-bodied with fine, tender tannins.
