Fresh pear and yellow apple lead the way, joined by citrus, delicate floral notes and a subtle herbal edge, while fine acidity and a mineral streak keep everything crisp and focused. Steininger is based in Langenlois, and this village-level Kamptal DAC bottling is designed to show the character of the area rather than a single vineyard. Dry, persistent and seriously food-friendly, it is a cracking match for schnitzel, grilled fish, seafood or lightly spiced Asian dishes.

What the winery says:

Steininger classifies Langenlois as an Ortswein, or village wine, within the three-tier Kamptal DAC system. Sitting between the broader regional wines and the single-vineyard bottlings, it is intended to express the character of the vineyards around Langenlois. Grüner Veltliner is one of the key varieties of the Kamptal, where Steininger focuses on precision, elegance and a clear sense of origin.

What the experts say:

Peter Moser, Falstaff, 91 Points (2023 Vintage)
“Pale golden yellow, silver reflections.
