Bright garnet in the glass, it opens with the spice and savoury character that's become something of a Martinborough hallmark, layered with red fruit accents reminiscent of fresh summer berries alongside a more autumnal streak of turned earth, sumac and dark chocolate. The palate is taut and juicy, with forest floor and savoury nuances carrying through to a crunchy, fresh finish, its vibrancy softened by silky tannin. Made with early drinking in mind, it's built to be poured now, though it will happily reward a few years tucked away in the cellar too.

What the winery says:
This Pinot Noir is made using traditional techniques from fruit grown on the Martinborough terrace. The grapes are destemmed into open-top vessels and fermented using indigenous yeast, with an average vat time of twenty-three days before pressing. The wine is then aged in predominately older French barriques for ten months, with sixteen percent new oak, and bottled without fining.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0968/2252/6319/files/EscarpmentPinotNoir2023_a5a58e5f-4e82-484c-a8a9-4803eb4029e3.jpg?v=1783720877
