Ripe blackcurrant, plum and berry flavours lead the way, backed by warming spice, integrated toasted oak and a smooth, structured finish. Made by Quarisa Wines from Durif grown in South Eastern Australia, it offers the dense colour and generous flavour this variety is known for without becoming heavy-handed. A rewarding choice for anyone who likes richly flavoured Shiraz-style reds and wants to branch out a little. Bring it to the table with slow-cooked beef, a hearty casserole or a juicy steak.

What the winery says:

The 2022 is 100% Durif, also known as Petite Sirah, with an intense red colour and purple hues. Quarisa describes youthful ripe berry fruit, blackcurrant and plum alongside spicy, toasted vanillin oak. The palate is full-bodied and densely fruited, with the oak integrated into a long, smooth finish. It can be enjoyed now or cellared further, and the winery suggests pairing it with red wine casserole or steak with red onion jam.

What the experts say:

Cuisine, 4 Stars (2022)
"Nicely concentrated yet almost understated for the intentionally dark, dense-natured durif with big, sweet fruit flavours and oak spices that square up against each other."
